Welcome Winter

Updated: Mar 21, 2022

Today on the 21 December the shortest day of the year also called the Winter solstice the season of winter officially starts. We have the shortest night of the year tonight and for many of us the festive season is just ahead of us. Ant while the days technically start to get longer as of tomorrow we still have quite a while of long nights and short days ahead of us. In seasonal yoga the season as well as traditionally winter is the time to hibernate. We find ourselves being tired earlier. It the time of year to try and get a bit more sleep, to curl up on the settee with a good book a blanket and a cup of hot chocolate. A time to enjoy spending more time indoors. Its the time of year where we look back at the year just past and evaluate what we achieved and what we still want to do. Its a time to see friends and family even if yet another year some of that might be virtual.

Its the time of year where we enjoy warming foods and drinks and avoid chilling foods and drinks. Try a few new stews, or roast or soups, add some more spices like a sprinkle of ginger or chillie to your foods if you can. Try a more alkaline diet and opt for things like ginger and fennel tea. Keep warm and hydrate as the organs of winter, the kidney and the bladder do not enjoy being chilled. Cold will deplete them and that is not good in a season where recuperation and preservation of energy should be the main focus. Winter is the season to relax and rest to be able to have energy for spring. Its the season where we try to avoid putting extra strain on our body. For instance try to avoid diets, deep cleanses, staying up late, lack of sleep, to much stress, being overworked and the like in the winter time.

More on the Winter season soon, but for now Merry Christmas and a Happy, Healthy and Prosperous 2022
